Cruz Campaign Bribing Delegates?

I don't know if it still is but it used to be illegal to pay someone to vote a certain way. If it isn't, it should be.
A convention is not legally an election
How do you figure that, when the purpose of the convention is to elect the nominee?
From my understanding of it the nomination process is governed by rules set by the national committees of the parties and/or individual state committees not by laws derived from the U.S. or State Constitutions, which for example explains why the political parties can exclude certain voters at their own discretion (e.g. conduct "closed primaries"); It's essentially like private clubs electing club officials.

Basically the party leadership can run their nomination processes any way they want as long as their not violating existing laws (e.g. tax laws).
