Would a white child who identifies as black be eligible for Affirmative Action scholarships Would a black child who identifies as Hispanic be permitted to wear a sombrero on Cinco de Mayo? Would a Hispanic child who identifies as Polynesian be permitted to wear a Moana costume on Halloween?

WHOOPS !!! Hoisted by their own petards. Already got bugs in this new society design effort. Cultural appropriation clashes with "self-identifying". It's a circus ready to happen. I can hear the monkeys and the organ grinder playing..

7.4 All students enrolled in a Delaware public school may self-identify gender or race which is maintained in eSchoolPLUS.

7.4.1 A school may request permission from the parent or legal guardian of a minor student before a self-identified gender or race is accepted; provided, however, that prior to requesting the permission from a parent or legal guardian, the school should consult and work closely with the student to assess the degree to which, if any, the parent or legal guardian is aware of the Protected Characteristic and is supportive of the student, and the school shall take into consideration the safety , health and well-being of the student in deciding whether to request permission from the parent or legal guardian.

This has not gone through and they are having discussions with the community. Parents need to be involved, or the caregivers as one can't go all day in school and then come home and put on a façade in my opinion. I'm am quite sure reading this, most parents are aware before the schools anyway of a gender issue. If a student feels his life is in danger at home, (which it might be as this is a touchy situation) then social services should be notified. Many times a teacher will identity a student who is abused at home.

On a side note, kids need to be who they are, they can't be forced into being what they are not.
