I don't want the U.S. to become a one-party nation, and I prefer the Democrats be the opposition to some other party such as the Greens Party, the Democratic Socialist Party, or Ross Perot's party, the Reform Party, if that is still around.

Why not? That's what the US voted for. You don't make any sense.

I dont' think they could rise to take the place of the Democratic Party, if it finally crashes and burns. So we would be left with a one-party system through voter preference, just as we became a two-party country by voter preference. Not good.

Why isn't it good?

I prefer Trump Republicans in charge, but with an opposition to keep them on their toes and honest.

For a long time now, each party's best chance to win is the other party.

There are arguments from some. However Trump is not George Sr., Dole, W., McCain, Romney. So, he has made promises that change the corrupted system. And they do not like it. And the kicker is, each party has made comments/promises on what Trump is actually doing.
