I see it as a huge shame and missed opportunity,
where Democrats COULD USE this negotiation to demand
reforms they also want and have been asking and pushing for.

Why not ask for matching fund to go into converting prisons, death rows,
and detention centers into VA and drug/mental health treatment programs?

If Trump and conservatives demand building walls,
why not insist these Walls be the Walls of Military prisons
and teaching hospitals along the border? To provide safe
detention for dangerous criminals, medical facilities and services
for the military and populations in crisis, while creating
jobs, education and housing to stabilize the border?

If we are going to fund military security on the border
why not build all the facilities needed for sustainable development?

Democrats should ask for MORE not less.
If Republicans want a Wall, why not specify
what else should be built to create that wall along the border?

Let the food fight begin. No admin ever needs to put up with senate confirmations except for permanent positions. Trump can have all "acting" staff, and then the next dem can have all acting staff. That should free up the senate to start addressing the budget deficit and the $21T Debt instead of asking nominees stupid questions.

I suspect that would be used as a kludge to blame Trump's massive debt increase on Democrats. It would be irrational and just wrong, but that never stopped them before.

At this point, if one side is arguing it's better to spend 5B on a wall than invite any more drug runners or human traffickers
to keep taking advantage of lax or lack of consistent law enforcement; and if others argue it's better to spend money
on health care than on criminalizing mental illness,

Why not argue for both? Why not get everyone what they want,
and invest in solutions. If everyone is too busy funding the
development of more cost effective solutions, they won't have
time to fight over blame for problems.

The real leadership with the vision to see where this is going
need to stand and step up to the plate.

No time for blame and waste, we need to work
cooperatively on solving these problems causing
the abuse of govt and tax money getting nothing done!

If the real leadership with vision to see where this is going were running things, there wouldn't be stupid demands for a stupid wall that does nothing but fulfill a stupid trump promise anyway. There is something called a Blue Card in the Senate where a Senator from the state where a nominee is being positioned can halt the nomination without giving a reason. McConnel is doing everything he can to bypass them.

Then, there are Dims and RINOS who are filibustering other nominees for a variety of reasons.
