Did the Mayor of Baltimore Employ the Best Strategy for Handling the Riot?
If her (Stephanie Rawlings) strategy had a name it would be "Don't offend the rioters because they might riot more." It is obvious that she held the police back in an emasculated state, effectively handing the City of Baltimore over to the thugs. The police commissioner said the lack of police response was due to the fact that "they're still kids,' so the rights of others be damned I guess. Like Obama's foreign policy places the interests of our enemies over that of our nation's, the Mayor of Baltimore placed the interests of thugs over that of the peaceful citizens of Baltimore. The police sat there and watched as they burned, looted, and assaulted their way from block to block for malt liquor, cigarettes, cash registers, lottery tickets, and anything else they could get their hands on. Millions of dollars of property damage accumulated (The Senior Center was priced at $16,000,000 alone) as the police were castrated by the leftist idea that by pursuing the criminals they will only create more crime. 15 buildings were set on fire, 144 vehicles were destroyed; about 20 police officers were injured, 85,000 children are at home instead of school, and who knows how many buildings were looted or suffered damages. There were also a number of innocent civilians injured (Still counting) and one in particular who is in critical condition as she was nearly burned alive in her home. In the end the thugs were allowed to create more dollars worth of damage in a few short hours than was achieved in days in the 1999 WTO riots.
There was one thing remarkable about Baltimore. Black church/civil rights leaders, unlike the police, were free to move about as they pleased. They took to the streets singing songs and conveying a positive message for the young thugs to follow. Chances that helped? Zero! Young thugs ran around them looting and burning as the church/civil rights leaders looked foolish posing for media photo ops in the middle of the intersection. Indeed, instead of condemning the black thugs destroying the city they tried to plaster a positive propaganda image so as to give the thugs cover for their crimes. But there is little doubt that they will be hailed as hero's for accomplishing absolutely nothing.
All this rioting was made possible by the Baltimore Mayor who thought that the rights of her honest citizens were less than that of the thugs. After all, she did say that she respects their right to "protest;" without giving a moments notice to the rights of others to travel down a public street, sit safely at a local restaurant, or to enjoy a ball game they paid for. No, the rights of the citizens of Baltimore are subject to whatever street the thugs want to randomly travel down without so much as a permit. When it came between the honest citizen and the thug, the mayor let it be known clearly that she was worried for the thugs. The thugs knew that they had free reign and acted accordingly. The absence of police retaliation for criminal acts made that clear to the young thugs. The mayors statements made that clear to the young thugs. The fact that she waited a full 24 hours to impose a curfew after the damage was done made that clear to the young thugs. And when they found out that they could loot and burn whatever they wanted in full view of the cops, it became exceptionally clear to the young thugs. Perhaps the most clear of all the lessons learned is that Stephanie Rawlings is an incompetent Mayor.
When Baltimore turns into Detroit, we know we can thank the Democrats of Baltimore who were too fearful of hurting the feelings of the thugs they represent.
