Do many Americans even know the role of the Supreme Court?

The Court holds the power of judicial review, the ability to invalidate a statute for violating a provision of the Constitution. It is also able to strike down presidential directivesfor violating either the Constitution or statutory law.

THE ROLE OF THE COURT IS NOT TO STRIKE DOWN LAWS YOU DONT LIKE. IT IS TO VALIDATE THEY DONT VIOLATE THE CONSTITUTION.

They stopped teaching civics in school for the express purpose of keeping people ignorant about the functions of government.

But the public was taught in schools that the Constitution was a living, breathing, ever changing document that needed never ending revision, presumably by Left wing activist judges like RBG.

Yep, lefties want to change the constitution at their whim.

Biden and Beto will shit all over 2A. Biden said as much.

Get rid of the police and confiscate your guns.....then OBEY.

Regretfully very few voters were required to pass a basic civics, or history class in high school. The Constitution is not an ever changing, living document requiring revision and interpretation within the context of today’s events, it’s an iron clad document, outlining the rights, limits, and responsibilities of the branches of government. It is the fundamental document guaranteeing freedom and privileges of the people it was designed to protect. The argument put forward by those on the left is that it is an antiquated document requiring adjustment to fit their political narrative. The role of the judicial branch of government is to guarantee the rights and privileges afforded by the Constitution and to hold the branch’s of government in check. The roots and basic outline of our Constitution derive from the Magna Carta with additional revisions to further guarantee the rights of all citizens in limiting governments grip over the people.

The constitution is not a perfect document. Why did we get 25 amendments?

Given that culture changes with time (human “status”, industrial growth, Internet technology, etc), the best legal OBJECTIVE scholars need to apply the original constitution text PLUS their interpretations that reflect today’s reality.

Tell that to the right wing. Our alleged wars on crime, drugs, and terror are nowhere to be found in our federal Constitution, yet, right wingers have a problem with general welfare spending.

To be fair, most Americans know almost nothing about local or state or federal government.

Like many other people, I did not even know the name of my Congressman until I learned this year the name of that detestable individual.

Needless to say, most Americans could not name five members of the Supreme Court to save their lives. (And that includes me.)
