Don't be fooled by the name federal, the federal reserve is not federal in any way, it's a private bank that has been given the rights to printing US currency, and they sure abuse that power.
Back in the 1800's the nation government wasn't the only ones printing four money, the states had the power to print currency them selves, which was backed by real gold, our modern currency is backed by loans. Eventual the national government gave that power to a private bank who much of the bankers running the show are kept in absolute secrecy.
When the government needs money, now they need to ask the federal reserve, but the fed doesn't give them money, they loan them money, sinking us farther into debt. This is the problem, they are charging interest on money that doesn't even exist, nor is it backed by anything valuable. Imagine that a government was set up and wanted to start a national currency, so they have the fed print 1,000 dollars with lets say a 7% interest rate. Well the government owes the fed back 1,070 dollars...
Here lies the problem with our current economic setup, America did fine for nearly 200 years without the federal reserve, and we will do better with it gone.

Thomas JeffersonIf the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered...I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs.
