A senior fellow at the Cato Institute, Michael Tanner, points out:

I don’t want food-stamp police to see what people do with their rice and beans, but it’s wrong. The purpose of this program is to help Americans who don’t have enough to eat. This is not intended as a form of foreign aid.”

Recipients explain their actions, this way:

“This is all worth more than $2,000. I’ve been shopping since last December. You can help somebody else, someone who doesn’t live in this country.”

A man helping her pack the barrel said: “We’re poor here, and they’re poor. But what we can get here is like luxury to them.”

In Massachusetts, they have also found a problem in their food stamp and cash handout programs, hoarding. Authorities have found food stamp cards with balances of over $12,000 dollars. Eighteen hundred have balances above $1500 dollars, including one account which is over $4600 dollars. A Department of Transitional Aid report shows the following disturbing revelations:

• Of the state’s 550,000 food stamp,
 or SNAP, recipients, 1,794 have balances of more than $1,500, and another 45 are carrying more than $5,000.•

One balance in March hit $12,088, the highest from any of the seven months of data the Herald reviewed.

• For those receiving state taxpayer-funded cash assistance, one EBT cardholder had a $4,622 balance, and another $4,320.

Again, we must ask ourselves, how anyone who is truly eligible for these benefits could actually hoard this much food credit or cash. The food stamps are provided by the federal government and the cash is administered by the state, using funds provided by the federal government.

I have no problem with us helping our poor in other countries but not with our tax dollars.. Our food stamps are for Americans not people in other countries.. That is why we have aid for them through our government .. They are defrauding the government saying they need that much food stamps only to send them overseas.. If you want to give charity , USE YOUR OWN MONEY .NOT OUR tax dollars..

It's all just Capitalism. The artificially inflated price of food is still making money for the big chain grocery outlets. The oligarchy is making plenty of money off of it. Don't be mad at the sequestered poor people who have accepted austerity but still want to help others in their situation. That's called basic human kindness. It's a virtue.

Our taxes are supposed to be used for things here,not sent overseas to foreign countries for military arms and other crap.

The Bush administration provided Iraq with funds, military equipment, etc., all of which was abandoned by fleeing Iraqi "security" forces, and now those military vehicles and arms are in the hands of the jihad, precisely as Dick Cheney predicted back in 1994 would happen after the US withdraws from Iraq.

Tens of thousands of lives and trillions of dollars wasted because of the lies of rich men.

TRILLIONS of dollars spent invading, occupying and torturing Iraq over proven lies, while 49 million Americans can't afford food each week. Again, rich people are the problem, not poor people.

Get a clue douche bag. CHRISTIAN Charities are primarily help the poor across the globe via donations, such as doctors without borders and the Red Cross. Yes many times government aids these groups with tax dollars, but they are most funded by private donations!

Poor people are working with the scraps left over by the rich. Whatever is allowed to "trickle down" like a golden shower on the unwashed masses. The 85 richest people on Earth have as much wealth as the poorest half of the world's population combined. Now you good moral Christians are berating the poor for helping each other out when the rich won't.
