Internet could use some regulation. As a communications medium I don't have a problem with some rules and regulations being imposed onto it just as was done for telephones. With cyberbullying and the like becomming a problem, laws directed at applying IRL laws to online communications seems perfectly reasonable. And if they wanna get rid of the 99% of crappy porn replacing it with better porn I'm all for that too.

Can someone give me a LOGICAL real world example of what type of regulation we're talking about?

As for free speech, I think you should be able to sue someone for libel on the Internet. Basically, you're publishing your own stuff when you write. If I say John Doe is stealing money from his employer, John Doe should be able to sue me. Offering injured parties due process would seem to be self-regulating.

If left to their own devices internet providers would do many things in the name of profit that would damage the internet and the way we use it far more than the government ever could. Who likes slower speeds at ever greater prices? Who likes their streaming video skipping and lagging? How about paying for services that are not delivered as promised? The main issue in this fight is Netflix and Hulu being a threat to other cable companies' profits.
