Hackers target Albuquerque Journal website

Online hackers posing as the radical group ISIS, took over an article at the Albuquerque Journal sometime early Wednesday morning.

The group claims to know all personal data from Albuquerque locals such as where we live and eat, even health insurance information. However, the writing of the article is questionable mainly because the group said it won’t stop until President Obama continues the bombing of ISIS positions in the Middle East.

The hackers’ message replaced the top story about the killer of a New Mexico State Police officer. The entire Journal website was shutdown for a few hours while the problem was fixed.

Whether it’s a hoax to be from ISIS or not, the Albuquerque Journal is taking the hack very seriously.

Just before noon on Wednesday, the Journal posted an article saying they’ve notified the FBI and “…the newspaper’s servers were not breached and the alterations appear to be limited to that story.”

KRQE News 13 has been in touch with the FBI on the story and they said there is no credible threat to public safety because of the incident.

I keep wondering why Albuquerque… I mean, this city has no real significance in the context of economy or strategy; it’s famous mostly due to Breaking Bad. Most likely no one would even notice its news portal was hacked.

Of course, ISIS could’ve hacked it because it wasn’t really hard and they just tried what they could do in US cyber space. So they announced they are here and are ready… But still strange…
