How did Labor Day become Big Labor Day?

Yesterday, the Tremendous city of Altoona hosted a Labor Day parade. Yet, non-unionized workers also labor, yet they weren't celebrated at all.

All of the groups marching were union groups.

Wouldn't it be nice to celebrate ALL who work and labor on this important holiday, instead of just those who have paid up union cards?

Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It wascreated by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.

Fair enough, but a lot of people in 2019 who would never paid dues, or walk a picket line, still deserve to be honored and get out and grill some kielbasa.

I agree. It used to be the stores and restaurants and businesses were all closed on Labor Day, but now it's some of the biggest sales of the year. I don't know why waitresses and cashiers can't have a day off too. Pretty unfair.

 Yay, you have a job?

Yes, it’s the communists’ favorite holiday...”international workers’ day”.

Labor built this nation. Unions helped build the middle class. Lest ye forget.

Non union people have also done a whole lot to build America as well.

And I would suggest that we proud, non-union people have done MORE. 94% of the American people are non-union.

I think it's a dumb holiday that should be scrapped, but I don't mind the day off from work.

But without unions non union laborers would be behind in wages, etc. Far far far behind. Yes they have their faults but without them the middle class would be lagging big time. Huge.

I disagree, I will tell you why.

The Roaring 1920's were really the beginning of the American Middle Class. The number of automobiles increased exponentially, which made living in Suburbia, the Habitat of the Middle Class, a possibility for tens of millions. Radio sales, electrification, telephone usage, all skyrocketed as well.

Millions of African Americans (and Honkies as well) from the South came into the mid west to work in the new industries and transform Americana, as the boll weevil crippled the cotton business.

This was all in the time of Big Labor's nadir, unionism was scraping the bottom of the barrel in the 1920's. In the 1930's , unionism picked up and poverty went sky high.

Disagree completely. Industry, to its transgression, seemed to exploit workers before they had enuff. Rotten conditions, low pathetic wages, long hors, no vacation ,. In other words anti human. If industry wasn't so disgusting back then unions wo using have been necessary. industry pushed them like slaves. Those industry owners should have been out in trial.
