Raising the flag at Iwo Jima is more inspirational as was the child running from a Vietnamese village with skin dangling from her body after a US napalm attack.

I don't use this to make a direct comparison, it's not meant to disrespect the brave men who went into war.

However, as a positive sign of American success or defiance, this is the only image that comes to mind for myself. Pretty haughty comparison. Maybe Reagan standing at the podium at the Berlin Wall, but that wasn't so much a "rah rah" defiance, but more of a contextual speech calling out the Russians.
