'Incredible' News as Banking Giant HSBC Ditches New Coal, Tar Sands, and Offshore Arctic Drilling Pr

Europe's biggest bank?

HSBC stands for Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank.

You beat me to it.

Not to mention, someone who wants to make money will invest in it and make the money bankers who acquiesced to bed wetters left behind.

Fossil-fuel divestment is a fool's errand that works against the natural preferences of the great masses.

Consumers gravitate toward energies that are most affordable, reliable and ubiquitous. Consequently, U.S. and world energy demand is dominated by natural oil, gas and coal.

Divestment does nothing to lower this energy demand. So, the practice has no financial effect on the many thousands of energy firms.

Loud mouth moonbat malcontents who HATE CAPITALISM in the first place are probably not the sort of people anyone should give a shit about, least of all give serious attention too.

In fact, divestment by some creates an investment opportunity for others. Consider the explanation of William MacAskill, CEO of the Centre for Effective Altruism and author of Doing Good Better: How Effective Altruism Can Help You Make a Difference.

As described in his New Yorker piece, "Does Divestment Work?", unless the financial fundamentals of a company change (cash flow, debt ratio, etc.), selling stocks for "moral scruples" creates a "bargain" for others.

Of course developing countries who face serious difficulty in building energy infrastructure and therefore remain impoverished and under developed are the hardest hit by the same loud mouth moonbat malcontents that fly around the world on private jets declaring how much more they give a fuck about poor people than the rich investors who provide the opportunity to increase the standard of living in these countries. As usual, these assholes are full of shit.

Consider the example of leading divestment advocate Leonardo DiCaprio. The movie star generates one of the world's largest "carbon footprints" with his use of multiple homes, private jets and a world-sized yacht.

DiCaprio may plant trees and drive a Prius to atone for his believed-to-be sins. He has been seen riding a bicycle to make a point. But like Al Gore (remember his $30,000 utility bill?), DiCaprio's lifestyle fuels the businesses that he admonishes others not to invest in.

The divestment of fossil-fuel stocks is both ineffectual against its corporate targets and hurtful to ordinary people.

Rather than continue this ill-thought practice, the resources and passion against carbon-based energy should be redirected to helping others -- beginning with the 1.2 billion people who lack access to electricity and have to burn wood and dung for energy.

LMAO what was the previous signals? :auiqs.jpg: Libtards and their propaganda :auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg::auiqs.jpg:

We won't live to see it, but I definitely think humanity could move beyond fossil fuels in the next couple hundred years or so. China is actually making a lot of progress with harnessing nuclear fusion. That will be a total game changer.

'Incredible' News as Banking Giant HSBC Ditches New Coal, Tar Sands, and Offshore Arctic Drilling Projects

In another signal that "the era of fossil fuels is coming to a close," Europe's biggest bank, HSBC, announced Friday that it will no longer fund oil or gas projects in the Arctic, tar sands projects, or most coal projects.

The move was cheered by climate campaigners on social media, who said, "This is huge," and called it "incredible news."
Europe's biggest bank?

HSBC stands for Hong Kong and Shangai Bank.

It's a UK bank.
And it's the biggest in Europe.

What point are you trying to make?

HSBC is not a European bank.

HSBC Bank plc is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. HSBC's international network comprises around 7,500 offices in over 80 countries and territories in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa.

HSBC Bank plc is one of the four major clearing banks in the United Kingdom and is a wholly owned subsidiary of HSBC Holdings. The business ranges from the traditional High Street roles of personal finance and commercial banking, to private banking, consumer finance as well as corporate and investment banking. Across all brands the bank operates some 1800 sites in the UK.

It started in territory owned by Europe and grew into something that largely operates out of Europe. Is this really the hill you want to fight on?

Hong Kong is not Europe, dumbass, and it doesn't operate largely out of Europe.

Here is the "headquarters" in Hong Kong.

/——/ Did you read the article? The company also plans to continue investment in its nuclear power generation and is evaluating the possibility of extending nuclear operating licenses

Nuclear power should be used too in my opinion. It's a very good power source and we get more skilled at harnessing it all the time.

The anti nuke environmental wackos don't like it. They don't like anything other than Unicorn farts being used for power.
/——-/ My Uncle has a John Deer tractor that runs on cow farts. Does that count?

Never said Hong Kong is in Europe. If you don't see how and why HSBC is referred to as a large European bank then I don't really know what to tell you bub, sorry.

Yup, those Bankers sure do have your best interests in mind. I'm sure they're fluckin you somehow with this decision. But hey, you wanna cheer for the Bankers, so be it i guess. :cuckoo:
Yeah, you Trumpanzee really hate the banks.

Big Wall Street banks saved $3.6 billion in taxes last quarter under Trump's new law
Oh stuff it. You Obamabots didnt keep his feet to the fire when he did NOTHING to the banking industry after the crash.

The only difference between you two is your hypocrisy.
Republicans blocked him from taking action.

If you were smart you would know that. Now go back to your Fox & Friends.
Like they blocked Obamacare?

Derp
/——/ Like they blocked his two USSC judges ?

We won't live to see it, but I definitely think humanity could move beyond fossil fuels in the next couple hundred years or so. China is actually making a lot of progress with harnessing nuclear fusion. That will be a total game changer.

That's because China has to import fossil fuels. We have abundant fossil fuels, that's why our economy is bad ass and we are a wealthy nation :muahaha: Also the only thing liberal green planet types hate more than fossil fuels is nuclear.

They hate EVERYTHING we do. Even if solar or whatever bullshit green energy industry actually gets established and becomes profitable, you can bet green commies will find a way to hate it.

The objective is to thwart prosperity.

There are no lofty goals, they don't give a fruit fly's fuck about the planet or nature. They're consumed with hate and envy. The foundation of regressive marxist philosophy.

.

Also the only thing liberal green planet types hate more than fossil fuels is nuclear.

Only the stupid ones. Nuclear fusion would/will be a boon for all of humanity. If fossil fuel use is going to go down a meaningful amount in the next 100 years nuclear technology will have to play a large role in that.

That's the problem.

THEY'RE ALL STUPID.

I'm not sure fusion is feasible outside the core of a star, we can do it but it takes far more energy than it produces, stars have gravity doing most of the work. Dark energy or dark matter, who knows.

Well I hope that's not true; it's not for me

I've met brilliant liberals, conservatives, anarchists and even fascists. I find that the most frustrating part of politics is being unable to talk sense into otherwise intelligent people.

I try not to underestimate what humanity is capable of. We just don't know what we don't know. That's why I support research and development of all types of energy technology.
