so India has canceled ALL Pakistani visas and all Pakistani have 48 hours to leave the nation. Pakistan retaliated by expelling India's diplomat.

More than 100 million people could die immediately if India and Pakistan wage a nuclear war, followed by global mass starvation, according to a Rutgers coauthored study.

“Such a war would threaten not only the locations where bombs might be targeted but the entire world,” said Alan Robock, a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University–New Brunswick.

The research found that fires ignited by exploding nuclear weapons could release 16 million to 36 million tons of soot (black carbon) in smoke that would rise into the upper atmosphere, spreading around the world within weeks.

The soot would absorb solar radiation, heating the air and boosting the smoke’s swift rise. Sunlight reaching Earth would decline by 20 to 35 percent, cooling the surface by 3.6 to 9 degrees Fahrenheit (2 to 5 degrees Celsius) and reducing precipitation by 15 to 30 percent, with larger regional impacts.

Vegetation growth would decline by 15 to 30 percent on land and ocean productivity would decline by 5 to 15 percent. Recovery from all these impacts would take more than 10 years because the smoke would linger in the upper atmosphere.

India is a globally leading producer of medicines, cotton, and sugar.

So....this is gonna be a brew-haha.

Not gonna end well. These two have been fighting for a century. India once had Pakistan as part of its nation....but cut it off and exiled the Muslims there. (Hindus have a Caste based society)

Currently India controls Pakistani water supply. They cut it off and Pakistan is in trouble.

However I'm doubting the functionality of either side's nukes. But we'll see.

There is always the risk, especially with countries with small arsenals against another country with a small arsenal.

Without MAD, a side can think they can win with a first strike.

People also thought an assassination in the Balkans wouldn't cause WWI and the Japanese would be foolish to go to war against the United States.

Yes they are....
And not very useful except for large area destruction. When you want an airport destroyed....useful. when you want a factory destroyed....worthless.

The real goal of war is to stop your enemy from being able to wage war against you. Whatever that takes. Civilians don't fight BUT their political pressure on politicians can make them stop waging war.

Dirty nukes create radiation that lasts decades and centuries afterwards....also the radiation fallout circulates around the globe. It fills rivers and streams which then pollutes the ocean and all paths traveled along their way there.

Tactical nukes are better in some ways....larger explosion (more difficult for small containment area) and smaller radioactive footprint after the initial sterilizing burst of radiation) Some of the components are more difficult to create and process....they also have a much shorter shelf life of 20 years maximum. (Maintenance is much more expensive)

So....we can tell by the various nuclear expenditures by Governments if they are maintaining their nuclear arsenal or not. Replacing solid fuel rockets with new fuel or replacing tritium in their nuclear devices.
The US arsenal is completely functional. Russia's is not. I don't know about Pakistan and India.
