Human rights legislations include the beating and physical attack as part of the definition of torture.

Generally, prisons have a lot of beatings and physical attacks between inmates.

Should the law allow prisoners to go into guaranteed isolation units to avoid that torture? Even hibernation?

Also, should the law allow prisoners to ask for execution, if they can't take the beatings any more?

Your take?

Solitary confinement is
Then we will take them out of solitary and put them in your cell.

Among the many purposes of prisons is the protection of the larger society from convicts.

A humane prison system grants prisoners as much freedom as possible, consistent with the needs of safety and security for the people working there. And the cost must be palatable to the overall society.

And if you put a thousand criminals together, some of them are inevitably going to cause problems.

And the people who are willing to work as guards in a prison do not include many humanitarians or Rhodes Scholars.

I think the corrections system should provide for humane execution of prisoners who wish to go that route. Indeed, it should be encouraged - even incentivized.

Does that make me a bad person?

Men get beat up and raped in the prison system all the time.

It really is a joke, then the revolving door of the prison system soon lets them back out into society in a worse mental state than before.

I'm more of a capital punishment/corporal punishment kind of guy.

Any prisoner in the US..who feels that his/her life is in danger..and says so..by signing a statement..is granted Protective Custody status..and kept isolated from the general prison population.

Is the system perfect? No...but..prison should be a disincentive to criminal behavior--no likkee the time..no do the crime.

I think that they don't have a solitary cell for every black eye, so this is true only for gang violence only.

Nope..there are many fistfights..most go unreported. PC is for those who believe that their lives are in danger..sex offenders..ex-cops....born victims---most gang members have to be involuntarily PC'd--as their cred depends on how they handle themselves.

There is a saying in prison..'fist fights are for friends'. You stick your enemies.

But the law is..if you ask...you must be PC'd up. The Prison does not want the liability if they are told there is danger..and they ignore it..at the inmate's expense..if the inmate is assaulted...he/she has a sure thing lawsuit.

If you had ever worked in a prison you might actually know what you are talking about.

Solitary confinement, yea, that should help rehabilitate them.

Rehabilitation has not been the goal of prison since the 70's. Now it's cost effective warehousing and punishment.Where do you think States cut whenever they need to save a buck? No one argues when the Prison system gets slashed..who care..the inmates deserve nothing, right?

The concept that it's like that commercial..'you can pay now..or you can pay later" escapes most people's minds.

It's not about rehabilitation, never was.

It's just doing something with them other than corporal or capital punishment cuz they are so darn humane. Of course, keeping them in prison too long is also inhumane it seems.

Just slap their hands and be off with them to come back again.

Considering that governments find it more profitable to send more people to prison, the warehousing of prisoners must come under pressure. Can they pay enough to guards to go into a room full of prisoners any more? I think that is becoming impossible. So what we are going for is prisoners killing each other and guards mopping it up if they get a chance. A new society?
