Hungary is investing in its own citizens in an afford to keep them from leaving.
People who don’t want to live under an authoritarian dictatorship are leaving Hungary in droves. The population is declining rapidly.
Young educated people are leaving. The old and those without skills or resources are left.
The problem with your authoritarian heroes is that nobody wants to live under their rule. Russia’s population of similarly declining, because people are leaving Russia, especially young men of military age.
