She didn’t have much of a voice, but she was a great emotive singer.Janis Joplin was a great singer; one of my favorites. She had one of those beautiful voices that can never be duplicated. It's sad she died so young.
Yes, she did convey a lot of emotion in her songs. She reminded me of Etta James in that way. Etta was another one of my favorites. She didn’t have much of a voice, but she was a great emotive singer.
“AT LAST“ we agree. Loved Etta.Yes, she did convey a lot of emotion in her songs. She reminded me of Etta James in that way. Etta was another one of my favorites.

Not that different from Elvis.Janis would have been a mediocre female black blues singer. Lots of competition there. Billie Holliday, Big Mama Thornton, Ruth Brown, Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.....Just to name a few. Janis had the benefit of being white, having a great blues voice and a love for the blues along with great talent. She's in a category all her own.
Myth of the Siren Who Caused ShipwrecksYea but she was talented
Yes and Elvis, like so many Rockabillys, had a gospel background as well. Not that different from Elvis.
Lone Star Lonely Hearts ClubJanis Joplin was once voted "ugliest man on campus" at the University of Texas. True fact.
Elvis was an Indian.Yes and Elvis, like so many Rockabillys, had a gospel background as well.
