Democrats, in general, continue to demonstrate disdain for free speech. Every time you hear about 'exceptions' to speech is just another attempt to curtail it. Gavin Newsom is an excellent real-time example where he has banned the production and sharing of political memes, parody and satire in the state of California. Tech companies such as Google and YouTube have been demonstrating censorship of content, even if subject matter experts are going against the narrative -- COVID was a great example. So-called 'hate-speech' is another exception that Democrats really want to introduce.
