Right now, when we have pretty good relationships with China, India and even Afghanistan - there is no practical need to advance towards them. Yes, it's quite possible. There is the logic of intentions and there is the logic of circumstances, and the logic of circumstances is always stronger. Right now the USA haven't real capabilities to fignt and win a nuclear war (or conventional war of atriction) against Russia-China alliance (at least without suffering unacceptable damage).
