Reading this group it's easy to forget there are other and older religions to choose from, and not all of them have a bug up their tuckus about sex.

From the Greek pantheon let's examine a little about Zeus, leader of their gods:

"Zeus had many offspring; his wife Hera bore him Ares, Hephaestus, Hebe and Eileithyia, but Zeus had numerous liaisons with both goddesses and mortals. He either raped them, or used devious means to seduce the unsuspecting maidens. His union with Leto (meaning the hidden one) brought forth the twins Apollo and Artemis. Once again Hera showed her jealousy by forcing Leto to roam the earth in search of a place to give birth, as Hera had stopped her from gaining shelter on terra-firma or at sea. The only place she could go was to the isle of Delos in the middle of the Aegean, the reason being that Delos was, as legend states, a floating island."
Encyclopedia Mythica: Greek mythology.

And my personal favorite, Aphrodite:

"In Greek mythology, Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty and sexual rapture...

Aphrodite loved and was loved by many gods and mortals. Among her mortal lovers, the most famous was perhaps Adonis. Some of her sons are Eros, Anteros, Hymenaios and Aeneas (with her Trojan lover Anchises). She is accompanied by the Graces.

Her festival is the Aphrodisiac which was celebrated in various centers of Greece and especially in Athens and Corinth. Her priestesses were not prostitutes but women who represented the goddess and sexual intercourse with them was considered just one of the methods of worship. Aphrodite was originally an old-Asian goddess, similar to the Mesopotamian Ishtar and the Syro-Palestinian goddess Ashtart. Her attributes are a.o. the dolphin, the dove, the swan, the pomegranate and the lime tree."

So before thinking it has to either be Christianity and feeling guilty for enjoying sex all your life, or atheism, know there are alternatives. And a religion that's humanistic and accepting of the pleasures of love and sex might be just the ticket. :)

Who said you have to feel guilty for enjoying sex? Talk about straw man.

Maybe he's chafing at being chastened for the TYPE of sex he longs to openly practice?

Genesis 6 (ESV)

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose . . . The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.

The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually . . .

Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “I have determined to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Jude 1:7 ...'Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.'

Paul had quite a few hang ups regarding getting it on and bumping uglies. Sadly his words and thoughts ended up codified in so many Christian sects. Is it any wonder so many Christians had problems reconciling sex with their religious upbringing when their whole life they were effectively told that sex is bad?

Paul didn't have a single hang up over sex.

The first commandment God gave to man was to have sex with his wife. Even before forbidding them from eating the the fruit of the tree.

There is a reason sex feels good. It's because it's meant to be enjoyed.

Problem is you want to misuse those powers and don't like the fact that you feel guilty about it.

7 Now for the matters you wrote about: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.”
1 Cor 7

Ya, no hangups there.

So because it's good not to have sex, it's bad to have sex?

considering your viewpoint on homosexuality, I would think you'd agree with Paul.

the Garden exists because of sex ... mythology was a spoken religion, truer to the heart than the scriptural religions of sterility.
