Insurgents Hack U.S. Drones
WASHINGTON --
Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations.
Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes' systems. Shiite fighters in Iraq used software programs such as SkyGrabber -- available for as little as $25.95 on the Internet -- to regularly capture drone video feeds, according to a person familiar with reports on the matter.
Easily fixed now that we know.
BTW, we used to do that to the Russians too.
Yeah...............and now that we know.............well............
CALLING ALL COMPUTER NERDS!!!
Okay......here's the idea...........
We already know the computer program that they're using, and, we already know that quite a few drones need to be retrofitted to enable encryption.
We then need to fix the receivers that don't have encryption as well. (Saw it on the news.)
So.......how about this..........
We know that certain viruses can be keyed to interact with certain computer programs.
We also know that some types of viruses (computer type) can destroy a computer when it becomes infected.
Build a program, that can easily be downloaded onto the transmit cycle of the drones. When it runs into the Sky Grabber program, it activates a zip file, and destroys the computer.
By the way..........2 benefits of this approach.........
Number 1, you get them to quit looking for the transmissions, because they don't want to lose their computers.
Number 2, whenever a computer is spying on a drone, it destroys the computer, thus denying the enemy further attacks along that particular avenue. It would also destroy a lot of their data, thus crippling their planning and intelligence.
What do you think, is it feasible?
