The Republicans say business will be hurt (slightly), and more employment will move overseas.

Democrats say "Hey! vote for us if you want a raise", ...and they HOPE more employment will move overseas.

When I left SEARS, the people who replaced my crew, in their bi-annual purge, were started at $15 per hour.

Do you see what's happening here?

The minimum wage is becoming the prevailing wage.

If a company like SEARS has to raise their janitors to $15 per hour, they're just going to say "fk it!" and keep all their slaves at $15.

Whether government raises minimum wage or not, it doesn't matter, the gap between minimum wage and prevailing wage is closing, and the Democrats fully intend the minimum wage to be the common wage.

The argument by those supporting an increased minimum wage is that the pay hasn't kept up with inflation and the cost of living. What those doing that arguing don't seem to get, or maybe they do and don't care, is that the skills to do many of the jobs that make minimum wage are the same as they were 50 years or more ago. How much continuous training does someone need in order to be able to push a broom, empty a trash can, and clean a toilet? None. How many engineers that started 50 years ago would be using the same techniques and knowledge they used then? Also, none. When ones skills have only increased arithmetically, if that for many minimum wage jobs, their pay doesn't increase like those whose jobs require skills that need to increase exponentially.

Are the workers coming up with ways to lower costs or make more sales? What's the problem.

Are those workers staying there and working? What's the problem.

If those workers are so good and are the cause of all those increased profits, why don't they get together, start their own company, pay their employees an amount they believe the job is worth, and put their former company out of business? I've heard the "if you pay them a living wage, they'll pay income taxes" argument. That may be true but it is as equally likely they still won't using the single mother scenario you posted above.
Take the single mother with two kids working for the current minimum wage. She doesn't pay income taxes based solely on the single parent (head of household 1040 filing) and two kids. The standard deduction and three exemptions, not counting the child tax credits, reduce her taxable income to zero. If she was paid $15/hour, she still wouldn't pay income taxes based solely on those deductions, credits, and exemptions. I did the calculation and for her to pay income taxes, she'd have to make $38,950 ($19.20/hour).
