The cost of the federal workforce is $270 billion (salary and benefits), so reducing the headcount by 20% (and requiring the remaining workforce to out in full days like in the private industry) saves more than $50 billion right there.

Then consider the overall government expenditures: $7 trillion. If we can cut even 1% of the wasteful spending, that’s another $70 billion.

The real question is can they get to $1T? They’d have to cut more than 10%, and that would be a stretch. But at least we’d be heading in the right direction.
