NEW YORK – A 4.8 magnitude earthquake recorded in New Jersey that shook residents in surrounding states and New York City on Friday morning was one of the strongest in state history.

The temblor was reported about 5 miles north of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, at about 10:23 a.m. Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter was about 45 miles away from New York City, where residents reported shaking furniture and floors.

Earthquakes in this region are uncommon but not unexpected. It’s likely people near the epicenter are going to feel aftershocks for this earthquake in the magnitude 2-3 range, and there’s a small chance there can be an earthquake as large or larger, following an earthquake like this,” Paul Earle, a seismologist at the USGS Earthquake Hazards Program told reporters. “In terms of our operations this is a routine earthquake … Immediately we knew this would be of high interest and important to people who don’t feel earthquakes a lot.”

By comparison, both the 1989 Loma Prieta (Earthquake World Series) was 6.9 as was the 1994 Northridge shaker.

For those have never experienced an earthquake, it can be a truly scary event. My best wished to people of NYC,

Big deal. A 4.8 earthquake isn't even worth mention. More panic porn. CA has had 76 quakes in the last 24 hrs. with 4 over magnitude 4.0. Meh.

My first quake in 1967. I felt the whole house shake. My Dad yelled to me to get down stairs, when I did I saw he bracing the china cabinet, I right up next to him and together we kept it falling over. Those 20-Seconds were the longest of my life.

4.8?

Last one of significance we had here was a 6.8, but it lasted over a minute and it was very shallow so it shook hell out of things.

I've been through a couple 7+ in SE AK, a 7.1 in '79 and a 7.6 in '72, and several in the 6.5+ range. You kinda get used to them...

Dumbfucks are trying to blame it on "climate change".

Other dumbfucks are believing it. LOL

Earthquakes were symbolic of shaking the people out of their lethargy or wrong path they are following…It did happen in Lebanon New Jersey just as things between Israel and Lebanon are heating up 4.8 may not be big but it does match the year Israel was formed in 1948 and the UN was discussing Israel and getting ready to chastise her once again and New York is the “ big apple” but GD did say that Israel is the apple of his eye in many a place in scripture… Not saying it is connected but ” coincidences” have happened in the past… Hopefully this is as bad as it gets and that no one got hurt both financially or physically but it definitely is worthwhile to keep an “ eye” on things that is for sure…

Was there anyone left in the city? After Democrats ran everyone out there probably weren't many people left there. Anyone remaining will now think it is time for them to leave too.

This reminds me of the numbskull who, in all seriousness, started a thread about Tokyo being completely evacuated following the 2011 earthquake.

Was there anyone left in the nations largest city? What are you asking?

And why would a 4.8 quake that literally hurt no one and did no damage make anyone “think it’s time to leave”?
