New, quickly moving fire near Twisp forces evacuations | Local News | The Seattle Times

A new, fast-moving wildfire that started between Twisp and Winthrop prompted evacuations in Okanogan County Friday afternoon.

The fire started around 2:30 p.m. and was 200 to 300 acres by Friday evening, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. The fire moved northwest around Liberty Bell High School, where the incident command post for the Carlton complex fire is located.

This is seperate from the Carlton Complex which has already burned over 300 homes. Really rough country, difficult to fight fire in, deep canyons and vertical slopes that make for unpredictable wind currents.
