NYC Councilwoman Inna Vernikov arrested

Republican Brooklyn Councilwoman Inna Vernikov was arrested Friday after she was spotted toting a firearm at a pro-Palestinian rally on Thursday— resulting in calls for her to be removed from office.

The councilwoman, who is Jewish and has spoken out against pro-Palestinian supporters, was in attendance as protesters convened on the campus of CUNY’s Brooklyn College Thursday afternoon.

Vernikov, 39, was seen “with the butt-end of a firearm protruding from the front portion of her pants” while observing the protest between noon and 2:45 p.m. Thursday, police sources told The Post.

She turned herself in to the 70th Precinct with her lawyer shortly before 3 a.m. Friday.

She surrendered her gun and her firearm permit and was not processed but instead given a desk appearance ticket, they noted.

Although Vernikov has a concealed carry permit, it is illegal in New York state to have a firearm at sensitive locations such as protests or school grounds.

The councilwoman was booked later Friday on a Class E felony, police sources told The Post — which can carry up to two to five years behind bars.

“It is unacceptable and unlawful for a civilian to ever bring a firearm to a rally or protest, and especially important for elected officials to model a respect for the law that is expected of all New Yorkers,” New York City Council Speaker Adrienne E. Adams said Friday.

Comment:
....not sure if she was brave or foolish....
She knows that her life is in danger being around the blood thirsty Palestinian supporters.
Maybe she was making a statement of defiance against the genocidal maniacs.
I am surprised that NYC has an elected Republican.

It's a damn shame she was arrested. Really no crime was committed.

Also: :hitit:

Another deranged Conservative antisemite.

Good to see she is facing some small measure of justice.
Facing justice for practicing her 2nd amendment RIGHT.

By the way did you ever return to your FAKE NEWS thread where you claimed there were no children beheaded or are you still to cowardly to return and admit you were wrong?

Spectacular titties - not guilty!

Her case would be a great one to challenge New York's oppressive gun laws under the Bruen ruling.

Opponents of the Democratic Party machine in NY have a near zero chance of winning anything in court.

I don't know her or her politics. But it's ALWAYS a bad day and sad day when a person is stripped of his/her legal right to self-defense. The Constitution is the law of the land, and she was illegally stripped of her God-given right to self-protection.

Open carry isn’t a thing in NYC. She knows that. It was a publicity stunt.
what does "OPEN CARRY isn't a thing in NYC" mean---if a person has a carry permit----he has to HIDE IT? In upstate NY hunters do not
hide their rifles?
