The timing was due to the debates. Trump had said something about holding off on debates because we don't even know if Kamala Harris is going to be the nominee (many righties were proudly proclaiming that Obama wasn't even endorsing Harris). So, Obama decided to put that to rest by coming out and endorsing Harris, taking that excuse away from Trump for holding off on the debates. I read an article today claiming that Trump said he would do debates anytime, anywhere, which is a lie. Trump had said he would debate BIDEN anytime, anywhere.
