If you listened to the interview BHO explained why he does not use the term.

You cannot alienate all the Muslim nations of the world and then expect them to cooperate with you on intelligence about radical Islamic terrorists.

You need to have some other name for it.

Not specifically saying "radical islam" leads one to believe that ALL muslims are in favor of radical actions. When WBC does one of their 'protests' at a soldier's funeral, do we ignore who they are? Do we say some random group did this? Do we blanket statement and say 'Christians'? No, we SPECIFICALLY say Westboro Baptist Church so that everyone KNOWS it isn't ALL baptists, it isnt' ALL Christians, it is THIS GROUP SPECIFICALLY. If obama and his ilk would specifically say "radical islam", there would be no implication that ALL muslims are in favor of terror.
