Exactly. Eisenhower and Nixon were being conservative when they preserved the structures of the New Deal along with the Big Government institutions and policies geared toward the middle class. By the same token, Clinton was being conservative when he preserved the momentum of Reaganomics (which itself wasn't being conservative when it used government, the courts and the media to unmake the postwar policies and consensus for broad middle class inclusion in national prosperity).

The problem with post Nixon conservatives is that they are using Trotskyite methods to impose monopoly capitalism, which concentrates wealth and political power in fewer and fewer hands.

Roberts' argument contains no trace of "common sense." It is an embarrassing circular argument that assumes that reading the law as written would "destroy insurance markets." That is a ridiculous argument. One could, indeed, make the case that Obamacare has done great damage to insurance markets--by driving up prices, by denying people less expensive policies, by causing millions to lose their coverage because it wasn't gold plated enough, etc., etc.
