CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
It was supposed to be a big rally, a local boost for the beleaguered healthcare exchange. But only a handful of people showed up Wednesday at Marshall Park to say good things about the federal government's website.

One of them was former Mecklenburg County Commission Chair Jennifer Roberts.

"We're out here today to encourage people to be patient," Roberts said. "And to keep working to sign up for healthcare."

The Obama Administration initially projected that 500,000 people would acquire insurance using healthcare.gov during the first month of the program. But today came a shocker. Fewer than 27,000 Americans have signed up on the website. Just 1700 of them live in North Carolina.

Thing about Charlotte is one of the most liberal cities in North Carolina next to Durham and Chapel hill.

The reason Americans are not signing up for the pay it yourself Obamacare is because it's too expensive. They can't afford it, after they were promised by Obama that their premiums would save them $2500.00 a year in premiums. The states that elected to do their own Obamacare sites are working just fine--and Americans have gotten a good look at these new premiums. Bottom line--They're not buying.
