Thanks for that.... I know very little about aviation and the lifespan of an air frame. It could be that you're completely correct.

I read at the time they ordered the Boeings that the company was not going to be building planes on this frame much longer, and it would be far less expensive to retool this frame because it's the same frame as the last AF1, so they just have to replicate the changes. If they went with a different frame, there would be development expenses in the extra armament, and security features required for AF1.

Trump interviews yesterday made it sound like this plane would be instantly available for free, and it's going to take just as long to convert this plane, as it will to finish the planes already purchased. Plus taxpayers will have to spend $1 billion for the work.

Trump also seemed concerned this the American plane wasn't the biggest and most impressive on the tarmac. President small hands seems to have a thing about size.

I thought it would be available within months to use as a replacement for the aging fleet of Air Force One standbys. But that's not the case. It wouldn't be ready until about 2029 which is about the same time the two brand new planes will be ready to go.

Ultimately there's no reason to pursue it anymore.
Hopefully cooler heads will prevail here and the whole thing will just die on the vine.

It has too much potential to smell like personal gain at this point.

I agree and from more than that perspective. The retrofit to make it AF1 worthy is going to be very expensive. They'll have to basically gut the entire plane to be able to put all the security features in it.
