I do 2 days in the office. I'm less productive during those 2 days. Shorter hours, more "water cooler" interactions.Private companies are different. If the employer decides he wants to allow it, that’s his decision. If the ones at home goof off half the day, that’s also his decision to allow it. If he has hired 10 people for what five could do, and wasting money on salaries, that’s his decision too.
In the case of the federal government, we the employer don’t want to pay for a bloated workforce or those who goof off - which of course some do - and want them all back in the office.
It’s not envy at all. I’m retired and the days of commuting are long past.
It’s wanting government to reduce expenses, given how we are operating at a massive deficit, adding to the debt every year.
No, the sense is that taxpayers don’t want to pay a professional, full-time salary of $180,000 for people who are given only a few hours of work a day, stay home and finish up by 1 pm, and then take tennis lessons, do their grocery shopping, meet other govt workers for a 2-hour lunch. The overall sense here is that middle class workers and lower classes workers are inferior people to the wealthy people. I've never used destroy the worship and admiration of some Uber rich person who considers working folk less than tolerable.
There are no false claim. All the government workers I know work from home 4 days a week, are earning between $150,000 and $180,000 a year, and with just one exception, are all doing personal stuff at least three hours a day while “on the clock.” I even knew one who went for a long ski weekend, and “worked” while she was there - no annual leave.I want the government to reduce costs also but I feel no need to push fake claims or demean people to do that.
So glad Trump is going to put a stop to how the government workers are ripping off the taxpayers. They will now have to go into the office like most Americans.
He works 20 hours a day, from wherever he is. Quite different from the govt workers who put in a few hours, and then continue to get paid for the next few hours while doing all their personal shit. Will he be doing that on his numerous working from home trips to MAL and his golf properties while playing golf on the taxpayer dime and then charging the taxpayers for the Secret Service rooms and golf cart rentals?

Whether they work from home or not, let's answer these simple questions:
1) What is the impact if that position is eliminated?
2) Can the job function be performed by an AI program?
The Inner Child in you just runs wild, doesn't it?Will he be doing that on his numerous working from home trips to MAL and his golf properties while playing golf on the taxpayer dime and then charging the taxpayers for the Secret Service rooms and golf cart rentals?

Requiring them to do that does not demean them.
If that employee is not earning their pay, they should be dismissed whether they work at home or in the office
Some people don't get that part.
Salaried people don't punch a clock. We get the work done whether it take 35 hours or 50 hours for the same pay.
I'm an information systems administrator and while my scheduled hours are 0800 to 1700, I actually have to often work in the evenings and on weekends because people have to be locked out of the system while I'm working on updates and running certain processes. If I lock out logins to get my stuff done, then others are sitting at their desks with nothing to do because they can't login.
The measurement isn't punching the clock, it's about being fully engaged in your job and expected outcomes.
If the job doesn't fully engage, re-evaluate the job. If the EE is slacking, fire the EE. Pretty simple really.

A person in a cubicle has a computer, phone, internet access, video conference capability and access to fellow employees.
A person working from home has those same things.
There is nothing saying one workplace is superior to the other. If the job is getting done, what difference does it matter?
I get some of my best work done on that one day because of reduced distractions like phone calls, meetings, and having to make social pleasantries with co-workers.
180,000 a year?....i was in the wrong agency....No, the sense is that taxpayers don’t want to pay a professional, full-time salary of $180,000 for people who are given only a few hours of work a day, stay home and finish up by 1 pm, and then take tennis lessons, do their grocery shopping, meet other govt workers for a 2-hour lunch.

Working in a Cubicle Farm can be quite distracting.
That creep who stops by to talk and won’t get your hints to leave, employee chatter, loud talk on the phone.
