This Islamist extremist group ISIS is an evil group that threatens the existence of modern civilization and if President Obama in his address to the nation tonight says America needs to make a commitment to deny this organization any save havens he deserves to be praised and supported by the entire nation for this leadership. But if President Obama tonight says America has to make a commitment to defeat this organization other countries help will be sought but regardless America needs to take full responsibility for this job President Obama will be making a big mistake and shouldn't be supported by the country.
This America's gotta eliminate this barbaric group mentality is wrong because of the complexity of the problem. If America charges herself with defeating ISIS then America has to utilize all its aids at disposal to achieve it which will have terrible long term consequences. Meaning that America has to make full use of our allies the Kurdish Peshmerga meaning we have to directly well arm them with offensive weapons so they can drive out ISIS from Northern Iraq and that is a huge mistake because it essentially guarantees the Kurdish region of Iraq will secede from Iraq because they already are pushing hard to have a referendum on independence and if America makes a robust Kurdish Peshmerga army in northern Iraq there is no way the Iraqi government army can stop them from seceding. Secession here would be a disaster because it would guarantee long-term destabilization in Turkey where the Kurdish regions of Turkey would want to secede from Turkey and join Kurdistan.
If America commits to the objective of defeating ISIS then it is going to need to ally with the PKK which is a Kurdish guerilla group operating in northern Syria because there is very little fighting forces left in Syria that can take on and defeat ISIS in Syria. If America allies with the PKK then it is going to be obligated to send them arms to fight ISIS and once ISIS is defeated in Northern Syria the area will be left with a very strong Kurdish guerilla group in the PKK. This wiil cause the same threat to Turkey as outlined above because the PKK has as its charter the establishment of the country of Kurdistan comprised of large portions of Turkey; this would be wrong because Turkey is an ally of the U.S. a Nato ally to boot good countries don't create huge secuirty threats to their ally countries.
America needs to limit its commitment on the ISIS matter to just contain and shrink in size ISIS territory and weaken and degrade this group. It needs to largely limit its military involvement in the pursuit of this goal to the use of America's air power. The vision America should have for defeating ISIS is that the Iraqi army returns to its non-sectarian greatness that existed when American left Iraq in 2011 and with the help of U.S. air power is driven out of Iraq. The Syria side of this vision should be that the moderate Syrian rebels, the Free Syrian Army, with military aid from America begin to have some successes on the battle field which inspires other Syrians to join the free Syrian army and this fighting force grows in strength and size and with the help of U.S. air power just wipes out ISIS in Syria.
In recent months America diplomacy in Iraq has been good with the seating of a Prime Minister and cabinet for Iraq and overall Shiite Iraqi leaders need to be commended for their partial reach out to Sunni and Kurdish Iraqis. But the American government needs to work to help the Iraqi's long-term solve this ethnic alienation and discrimination problem they have with their government, in part, they need to publicly come out and say the Iraqi people need to change the Iraqi constitution to require a significant number of minority ethnic members of parliament vote in favor of a slate for the Prime Minister and cabinet slate to be aproved by the Iraqi Parliament. American diplomacy in Iraq cannot just now declare victory the attempt by the Shia Prime Minister to put a leader of the Badr Corps as head of the Interior Ministry, the National Police Force, shows a real lack of consideration for Sunnis because during Iraq's heavy ethnic violence period of 2006-2007 many Badr Corps members were considered perpetrators of the ethnic killings as members of death squads and the Shia militias.

Are you talking about arming the moderate Syrian rebels who surfaced on youtube munching on Syrian Army soldiers organs? lol

The Kurds will end up with an independent state with or without our intervention.
I view the Kurds as a people who have been more or less ostracized by others in the region. I believe that once the Kurds have established an independent State, they will simply want to be left alone.

No American boots on the ground, prepare for a disaster. No war was ever won by air or naval power alone. This sad sack community organizer will change his mind about American ground troops.

Yep, he needs to redo what he's undone but that won't happen because A: he's too righteous and narcissistic to admit fault and B: everything is political for him.
This, will begin another downward spiral. Another ostensible step forward into several steps backward.
But this will buy him enough time to allow him to go back to golfing and playing celebrity president.

You're right. Bombs and airpower has never worked alone except in Japan with the A Bomb. Obama is going to drop a few bombs a day and let them grow in numbers and territory until he hands it off to the next President. Two years of pin-pricking are ahead instead of going into Iraq and Syria and wherever else they may be and taking out all of them we possibly can in six months.

He's depending on the Iraqi army and the Kurds. If he can keep both from realizing that both ISIS and the Syrian Army will be shooting at them maybe not that many will desert.
