now THIS is a proposal I can wrap my head around

Rand is awesome; I wish the republicans would put him in charge of writing a health care bill and just run with it, but that is another topic for another day

why in the hell are we sending money to Pakistan anyway?

let's all rally around Rand and get something done that we desperately need!

Fund American Infrastructure by Ending Aid to Pakistan | Senator Rand Paul

To prohibit assistance to the Government of Pakistan, and to require the Department of State and the United States Agency for International Development to transfer amounts to the Highway Trust Fund equivalent to historic levels of assistance to Pakistan.

Why not end the drug war?

Drop in the bucket...

add stopping funding for a dozen or more other countries, and we've got a good start

I can easily get on board with this idea. It is certainly a nice starting point.

ending the drug war is not a drop in the bucket.

According to a 2008 study published by Harvard economist Jeffrey A. Miron, the annual savings on enforcement and incarceration costs from the legalization of drugs would amount to roughly $41.3 billion, with $25.7 billion being saved among the states and over $15.6 billion accrued for the federal government. Miron further estimated at least $46.7 billion in tax revenue based on rates comparable to those on tobacco and alcohol ($8.7 billion from marijuana, $32.6 billion from cocaine and heroin, remainder from other drugs).[122]

Low taxation in Central American countries has been credited with weakening the region's response in dealing with drug traffickers. Many cartels, especially Los Zetas have taken advantage of the limited resources of these nations. 2010 tax revenue in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras, composed just 13.53% of GDP. As a comparison, in Chile and the U.S., taxes were 18.6% and 26.9% of GDP respectively. However, direct taxes on income are very hard to enforce and in some cases tax evasion is seen as a national pastime.[123]--https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_on_drugs#Costs_to_taxpayers

If we have needs at home why are we giving money away to begin with?

Do you postpone your home repairs to fund your neighbors activities?

We've always done that and I've never understood why it's simply stupid to fund other countries when there are parts of this country and programs that could be funded.

I'm only referring to the funding we send to other countries.

Just skimmed your article but didn't see the funding it takes for the DEA, wtf they have 35,000 FBI agents they could turn over high-level addictive drug enforcement too. The DEA is not needed.

totals were included not specifics.

the Point is, the right wing always prefers socialism on a national basis to any form of applied Capitalism, when given the opportunity. And, then claim they are for small government.

WTG Rand! I support this proposal 100%. Citizens have no input whatsoever on 'Foreign Aid.' And that's the big problem. Citizens should be allowed input. I'd love to see Rand get this done, but i'm not counting on it. The Swamp Creatures aren't gonna allow it to happen. Too many are owned by foreign interests.

Rand Paul shows you don't have to be smart to be a Senator. I wonder if he is aware of the fact that Pakistan is a nuclear power so stability in Pakistan is a part of our national security.

Progressives will not end the drug war, they are too much in favor of it...

That's funny coming from a guy who professes the belief that the federal government shouldn't be in the infrastructure business..
