In December, the current Remington owners, RemArms, revealed it was moving operations to gun-friendly Georgia, and making 270 people redundant.

A historic New York village faces 'losing its soul' after the nation's oldest gunmaker, Remington, announced plans to shut its massive firearms factory next month - leaving entire families without work.

RemArms added that Georgia offered an environment that better 'supports and welcomes the firearms industry.'

New York Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik blamed the state's gun laws for the closure.

In a statement, she said: 'New York Democrats’ unconstitutional gun-grab policies have pushed significant businesses out of the state.

'History can not be erased. I am proud to represent Ilion, former home base for Remington Arms in Upstate New York. And I will always stand up for our 2A Constitutional Rights!'

Another former employee, David Brewer, wrote on Facebook: 'I spent 34 years there and it is sad to see it go but the governor wants to make a name for herself for the do gooders and not punish the criminals but punish the law-abiding citizens.'

Comment:
Remmington makes mostly hunting rifles.
NY bullied Remington.
So now they have lost a good employer.
We have a crime problem and people want to be able to protect themselves from the criminals.
The Left sees gun owners as a threat to their totalitarian quest for their one-party control of our country.
The Democrats exploit dumb people.

Smith & Wesson moved out of Massachusetts last year. They went somewhere down South as well. They made it very clear that the gun laws in the Communistwealth were the main deciding factor… and the didn’t take many workers with them. They decided to restaff in the new location instead.

The Connecticut River Valley used to be referred to as the heartland of gun makers. Not anymore.

A lot more illegal aliens like to live in Georgia than up where the winters are cold. Georgia has a big infestation of them, has for years.

LaGrange is a hood rat college town, soon to be fought over between blacks and illegal alien gangs. The Atlanta Metro area has over 1.1 million foreign born 'residents', of which some 450,000 or so are illegal aliens. Great place to open a business for crooks.

Stefanik said that the move resulted from “failed unconstitutional gun bans.” Walczyk added that the state’s Gun Industry Liability Law, which allows gunmakers to be sued if they “knowingly or recklessly create, maintain or contribute” to a dangerous condition with their firearms, pushed Remington out of New York.
The law, which was signed by former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo in 2021, was challenged in court by gunmakers but was upheld as constitutional in a ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Mae A. D’Agostino.

The Govt. subsidized a lot of arms manufacturing and machinery research there, via the armory, for a couple of hundred years, beginning in 1777. Harper's Ferry was the other major early American armory.

Remington got a massive welfare handout from the state.

"Remington could claim various state tax breaks, including an income tax credit allowing it to annually deduct $3,000 per job from state income taxes, up to $12.8 million over five years, as long as workers make at least $28,000 a year. The state will also pay to train workers, but declined to detail the entire incentive package, saying it was not complete yet."

28K a year is about $13.50 an hour or so, assuming the get a week or so paid vacation . They will still need food stamps and Federal welfare aid even with a full time job at that pay.
