I've been on my own since 18 and made my own money since 14. My parents taught me that I could do or have what I wanted all it takes is a bit of sweat. Too many parents grew up the same way and did well, then they forgot the lessons they learned in the process and spoiled their children.

No such thing. Nice myth though, or Ayn Rand character.Why would anyone waste time being "self reliant" when, for cost of a vote, one can have all of life's necessities and lots of life's goodies as free government handouts?
Only question is where the money to supply the goodies might come from when everybody has figured that out.
