Russia Ambassador Exits US With Warning of 'Nuclear Catastrophe'

11 Oct 2024

Russia's top envoy to the United States has ended his term, leaving behind an ominous forecast about the risk of deteriorating bilateral ties escalating into a nuclear-armed clash over the ongoing war in Ukraine in an exclusive interview with Newsweek.
The Kremlin announced on Thursday that Russian Ambassador Anatoly Antonov had been officially relieved of his duty after seven years of service. In the lead-up to his departure, Antonov spoke with Newsweek about the troubled state of relations between Moscow and Washington, which show no signs of improving as the war in Ukraine continues and NATO doubles down on military support for Kyiv amid recent advances by the Russian military.
'"Project Ukraine' is dragging American politicians only further into an abyss, from which it is increasingly difficult to get out," Antonov told Newsweek. "As we see, the administration can only respond to the victories of Russian troops in Donbas and the failure of the provocation by the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region by using the same hackneyed theses about 'support as long as we can.'"
"There are zero signals to clients about the need to think over their position and sit down at the negotiating table," he added. "Neither are there any hints about stopping the senseless flow of weapons at the expense of the local taxpayer."

Commentary:
It’s classical Russian Bolshevism fear mongering. Much like Democrats. Only the willfully blind and terminally stupid are bothered by such Kremlin gaslighting nonsense.
Not a good idea to back down when Russia or anyone else threatens the use of nukes.
Something tat Joey B and Kamala are prone to do...

What did you sensibly expect him to say?

Unless you are brain dead the sirtuation inspires grave concern .
No fear mongering .
The situation is fearful .

The left wing media created a "doomsday clock" that they only used during republican administrations. Today we might be closer to nuclear war than JFK's "Missile Crisis " mess in the early 60's but the media is keeping a lid on it until Trump is elected.

When the white kid with the rifle was at the African American Insurrection, he fired the rifle and most of the crowd ran like they were in an Olympic race. All of that kicking ass killing, arson and destruction for a minute stopped. I say this to you because violence one way is nothing compared to when people face off to each other. Prog leadership manipulates violence, and they keep their hands clean.

I said early on that a negotiation should have occurred before all the deaths and Russia took land. I didn't expect Ukraine to fight so valiantly but regardless.

After Ukraine showed the will to fight it seemed reasonable to support them in their plight. Weaken Russias military in the process and defend their land.

After more than two years there is nothing good coming from this and China is lying in wait just hoping it keeps the worlds attention.

A deal should be reached. Create an East/West Germany scenario. By default it will improve Ukraines democracy and civil liberties, just as West Germany was a bastion of freedom while the East showed their ugly colors.

No better advertisement for liberty than those who are no longer part of the West wanting to return. The dichotomy can be presented for the world to see.

Indeed, This all stems back to Obama's weakness in the ME with Syria, ISIS and dealing with Russia.. i.e., the open mike conversation with Dimitry Medvedev.
This gave Putin the opening to invade the Crimea like he did with Georgia. Then Joy,XiBaidung repeated the foreign policy weakness shown by Obama...

You're under the illusion Russia won't use nuclear weapons to protect its western border from a hostile military alliance?

Throwing good money after bad in Ukraine?

"In a major commentary, ‘Russian Military Power’, published in December 2017, the US Defence Intelligence Agency concluded:

‘The Kremlin is convinced the US is laying the groundwork for regime change in Russia, a conviction further reinforced by the events in Ukraine. Moscow views the United States as the critical driver behind the crisis in Ukraine and the Arab Spring and believes that the overthrow of former Ukrainian President Yanukovych is the latest move in a long-established pattern of US-orchestrated regime change efforts…’

"Is Putin paranoid about ‘US regime change efforts?’ DIA did not think him paranoid. And surely Putin has taken note of Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s remarks in April 2022:

"'One of the US’s goals in Ukraine is to see a weakened Russia.…'"

Democrats shills here say Democrats in NYC for example are ready to die for Ukraine in Russian responses.

Putin will not nuke red areas because that only helps his enemies.

Great. But we are SO safe with Biden and Harris at the Helm. (snicker)

Russia is waiting for our election results. If Harris wins, they will go all out against Ukraine. Unless Biden orders another Afghan-style pullout.

You seem old enough to remember the Cold War. Russia has made this threat for decades.
