I think you're right in that the media, all of the media, only covers what gives them ratings. Today, the dems complain no one is paying attention to drilling in the Artic Refuge .... for which maybe 2% give a shit.

But the question is why did Trump give the media the ratings? Your op raises that. He's entertaining of course. But if Bernie had been able to attract black votes in the South, he might have been the nominee. Significant portions of both party voters are dissatisfied. Perhaps a different Obama-successor candidate could have delivered a successful message of why we should "stay the course." Trump would not have won even the EC vote without dems in the rustbelt switching from Obama to Trump. Romney didn't set them on fire, that's for sure.
