Actually, no... not 'only in Britain'. In most EU countries, and several western countries as well. In fact, some countries would have given lighter sentences.

Yeah, they'd probably have gotten the same sentence over here. Its not good enough. 10 years at the least would be appropriate.

Ridiculous sentence but it isn't just Europe. An American 17 year old found guilty of strangling an Irish girl to death in Tokyo last year received 5 years in jail. As he was a minor. Now that's madness. Some countries really need to take a hard look at their justice systems.
