Later, in passage 1:32, Origen supported the Jewish records and confirmed that the paramour of the mother of Jesus was a Roman soldier called Panthera, a name he repeated in verse 1:69. Sometime during the 17th Century, those sentences were erased from the oldest Vatican manuscripts and other codices under church control. 4


The traditional church writings of St Epiphanius, the Bishop of Salamis (315-403) again confirmed the ben Panthera story and his information was of a startling nature. This champion of Christian orthodoxy and saint of Roman Catholicism frankly stated:

That's fascinating...and, makes Jesus all that more an interesting figure.

The thing is, people apply modern concepts of morality and ethics to ancient civilizations. Most of what was written about esteemed religious figures was long after their deaths, including Aisha and Mohammed. The hypocrisy is that one is called "pedophile" despite having married multiple adult women, despite marriageable age being puberty for a young girl and despite the differing accounts as to her age - they focus on one only.

The not so good reality is that there are those who follow the faith that believe that and believe child marriages are ok. They aren't. And there was nothing in Mohammed's words that lead to that. A desire for a "virgin" was imprinted not only in Islam but in Christianity, Judaism, and a multitude of cultures where women were held to a different standard than men.
