Under George W. Bush a choice was made, what Bush called offshoring.
President Bush supports policies that subsidize
job destruction with taxpayer dollars, including
new tax breaks for foreign production and more
government contracts and subsidies for companies
that destroy American jobs.
Under President Bush, our trade deficit has exploded
and our inflows of foreign direct investment have
fallen, destroying good jobs. This job loss was not
inevitable. It is the direct result of President Bush’s
acts of omission and commission—his decision to
push policies favoring imports over exports and
rewarding U.S. companies for shipping more jobs
overseas. And it is America’s workers who have
paid the price for President Bush’s bad choices.
Since George W. Bush took office in January 2001,
America’s workers have lost 2.7 million manufacturing jobs and nearly 900,000 professional service
and information sector jobs. A significant number
of these lost jobs have gone overseas
