In a Republic, actually
‘Abbott has posted about the development at least 11 times in recent weeks. He suggested the developers may have violated fair housing and financial laws, and accused the Islamic center of conducting illegal funerals.

The governor ordered multiple overlapping investigations. Not to be outdone, the state’s conservative attorney general, Ken Paxton, added his own criminal inquiry.

The state’s actions have fueled opposition to the proposed housing development, known as EPIC City, before any initial plans have been submitted. At a hearing on the project in Collin County, where part of it would be located, hours of public comment included expressions of anti-Muslim hostility.

“I know what this would mean,” said another speaker, Krista Schild, a Republican precinct chair in Hunt County, where a portion of the project would be also be located. “Honor killings, stonings, marrying their young girls off to older men.”’

The fascist state of Texas.

There’s no limit to Republicans’ bigotry and hate, along with their ignorance and unwarranted fear.

Bigotry is making a decision with zero knowledge.

Moslems are stating they will live under their own laws. We are saying no, you will live under the laws of the constitution.

Ccjones calls that bigotry.

I call ccjones a democrat of extremely low intelligence

Sorry, Clay, you lose again. There will be no muslim sharia center in Texas for you to move in to, and we won't allow you to practice Sharia Law. Go home to Yemen for that shit.

You really don't understand Muslims at all.

It's not just 'homes and a mosque.' It's the size of a small city with restaurants, stores, etc.

What attracts you to Islam the most, Jonesy? The treating women like property? The honor killings? Rape is justified if the rapist sees a little bit of hair on the victim's head?

If a Christian sect wanted their own city and to run it under their own brand of the law, you'd be throwing a fit -- and rightly so.

But for some reason, leftists are utterly unable to criticize Muslims.
👍

On a positive note, fewer churches will be permitted to be built in some other locations.

We've waited for ages to hear of sky fairy believers taking action to destroy each other!

The enlightenment of the religious is moving at a faster pace every day! This forum has made huge progress in just the last year. Ding is done and we need to pay more attention to meriweather now.
There are cracks on record here on her extreme belief system.

Why does it bother you so much that people have faith in something that can't be seen?

There are religious and spiritual communities, including Christian all over in the US that do similar to what this group is proposing. And you have no problem with it.

Well known groups such as the Amish and Mennonites for example. Other examples might be communities that are allowed to follow religious law for civil things (marriage, divorce, funerals, finances) but not criminal law and the religious laws don’t trump state and federal laws.

You can criticize Muslims all you want. The state however can’t treat them differently than other faiths.

From the OP:
The center and its congregants have been fixtures in Plano for two decades, providing a food bank, mobile medical services and, in recent years, the city’s only warming center during cold weather.

They aren’t crazy militants, these are long term community members. What specifically do you object to? The fact that they are Muslim?
