The 'Axis of Evil'...and words DO carry Consequences

On another thread I asked the "why" so many democrats had voted for the war ON Iraq, and although many on my side of the aisle openly voiced their displeasure toward their own party's many "cowards" for going along with Cheney and GWB, many right wingers had actually shifted the blame to Clinton's policies......avoidance and denial are powerful coping methods, I guess.

However, on a related sub-topic, I was also wondering the following:

When Bush voiced his infamous "axis of evil" speech where he labeled 3 countries as the enemies of the US......and settled on invading the WEAKEST of the 3 (mindful that Iraq had virtually NO air force and could really only control one third of his country) ..AND we all know what a catastrophe the Iraq war turned out to be....

My question pertains how the other 2 within the "axis" and, of course, all the other potential enemies of the US, came to regard the might of our country's military prowess; basically, did we EMBOLDEN our enemies through our invasion of Iraq.
