I was watching the HBO special on Political Cartoonist Herb Block.

When they got to the McCarthy era, they pulled out all of the old Liberal lies about how wrong he was, how evil, that he was the worst American in the country.

They couldn't admit that he was right.

Joe McCarthy Was Right

Communism - McCarthy Was Right

Many historians, including Arthur Herman, say that the proof is the Venona decrypted Soviet messages, and the transcripts of closed hearings before McCarthy's subcommittee—proved McCarthy was right by showing that most of his claims were right and that there was a lot of Soviet spies in the U.S. at the time. More than they wanted to admit or even knew of at the time.

These articles are from 2000. 14 years ago. It's not like this is new information, but the Liberal media would rather continue the lie than admit that they have been wrong/lying for 60 years.

Of course he was right. Everybody is a commie. If only he were here today to expose the true intentions of Orama lama ding dong's commie administration. Damn you, liberal media!!!!!!

One of the most horrendous examples of government over-reach in our history and the conservatives love it.

I see the lefties are falling back on their old standards..

When they can't refute the facts, attempt to ridicule.

Yeah, he was right..the Soviet Communists took over and we are all Soviet Communists now.....comrade.

The Shafer Commission was right, too, but the "liberal" media won't report on that.

Maybe the media aren't as "liberal" as you think.

Since it was the Democrats that contolled the House and therefore the majority on the HUAC, blame the over-reach on them. It is hard to believe that there were actually Democrats that opposed Communism. And, for all the talking McCarthy did, it was the HUAC that got some convictions, i.e Alger Hiss.

In 1947, the committee held nine days of hearings into alleged communist propaganda and influence in the Hollywood motion picture industry. After conviction on contempt of Congress charges for refusal to answer some questions posed by committee members, the "Hollywood Ten" were blacklisted by the industry. Eventually, more than 300 artists—including directors, radio commentators, actors and particularly screenwriters—were boycotted by the studios. Some, like Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Paul Robeson and Yip Harburg, left the U.S or went underground to find work. Others wrote under pseudonyms or the names of colleagues. Only about ten percent succeeded in rebuilding careers within the entertainment industry.
In the fifties, the most effective sanction was terror. Almost any publicity from HUAC meant the 'blacklist.' Without a chance to clear his name, a witness would suddenly find himself without friends and without a job.

House Committee on Un-American Activities: chairmen
• Edward J. Hart (D-NJ), 1945–46
• J. Parnell Thomas (R-NJ), 1947–48
• John Stephens Wood (D-GA), 1949–53
• Harold Himmel Velde (R-IL), 1953–55
• Francis Walter (D-PA), 1955–63
• Edwin Edward Willis (D-LA), 1963–69

In the wake of the downfall of Senator McCarthy (who never served in the House, nor HUAC), the prestige of HUAC began a gradual decline beginning in the late 1950s. By 1959, the committee was being denounced by former President Harry S. Truman as the "most un-American thing in the country today."

The Media keeps lying about McCarthy.. He has been proven right.

That there was communists and communist influence, along with far right reactionaries and their influence, in government, yes.

He still was a subverter of personal liberties and was properly chastised by his own party.

Actually most of McCarthy's claims were srong.

But he isn’t buying efforts to rehabilitate McCarthy’s image. Prof. Klehr told an audience at a 2005 conference that McCarthy may have been right about “some of the larger issues” — such as, that there actually were communist spies in America — but that he was recklessly wrong on much else, especially the details:

[V]irtually none of the people that McCarthy claimed or alleged were Soviet agents turn up in Venona. He did identify a few small fry who we now know were spies but only a few. And there is little evidence that those he fingered were among the unidentified spies of Venona. Many of his claims were wildly inaccurate; his charges filled with errors of fact, misjudgments of organizations and innuendoes disguised as evidence. He failed to recognize or understand the differences among genuine liberals, fellow-traveling liberals, Communist dupes, Communists and spies — distinctions that were important to make. The new information from Russian and American archives does not vindicate McCarthy. He remains a demagogue, whose wild charges actually made the fight against Communist subversion more difficult. Like Gresham’s Law, McCarthy’s allegations marginalized the accurate claims. Because his facts were so often wrong, real spies were able to hide behind the cover of being one of his victims and even persuade well-meaning but naïve people that the who le anti-communist cause was based on inaccuracies and hysteria.
