Trumps team did an outstanding job vs Covid19. I truly say that and with dedicated honesty. I will now explain. For new diseases, normally the system inherited by Trump spends up to 10 years to make, test and finally approve vaccines. Trumps team did that in 10 months.
How new vaccines are developed
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER) is responsible for regulating vaccine use in the United States.
The general stages of vaccine development are:
- Research and discovery
- Proof of concept
- Testing the vaccine
- The manufacturing process
- Approving the vaccine
- Recommending the vaccine for use
- Monitoring safety after approval
Research and discovery
In this early stage of vaccine development, researchers explore their idea for a potential vaccine. Vaccine development often takes 10-15 years of laboratory research, usually at a company in private industry, but often involves collaboration with researchers at a university.
This is all true (except for thinking this all happened under Trump).
I will now explain.
mRNA research has been done starting in the 1980s before COViD with further research funded by DARPA around 2010. In 2013 the first human trials for mRNA vaccines were started by Moderna. With trials expanding into other viruses shortly after.
So the research, development, and trials of the type of vaccine adapted to address COVID were already in place allowing private industry to adapt that which was already known to the emerging threat.
I will say that the Trump turned over manufacturing and distribution assistance to VP Pence and that was probably the smartest thing he did. With the governments help final clearance for use was accelerated, along with manufacturing and distribution in quantity.
However it was private industry itself that created the vaccines based on research the had ALREADY been conducting for decades.
This can all be verified independently if you were to do some reading on the history of mRNA vaccines.
Glad to round out your knowledge.
