Ever since the first election of Barak O'Bama, our Armed Forces have been an incubator of Leftist social engineering. Clinton gave it legitimacy with "Don't ask; don't tell," but under O'Bama came a paradigm shift from which we have not yet recovered.
From that point on - from the nomination of Leon Panetta as SecDef - the officer corps has been evaluated and promoted on the basis of which officers did the best and most faithful job of social engineering (aka, "DEI"). So as has been pointed out in the current hearings for Pete Hegseth, the Armed Forces shifted away from excellence and lethality and toward compliance with principles of social engineering.
As a result, MOST of today's general officers (including admirals, of course) have achieved their rank by being faithful bureaucrats rather than being outstanding leaders and soldiers/sailors.
A serious house-cleaning is necessary, and it may take more than one Administration to get it done. I don't think the talk of panic at the Pentagon is overblown. They are in a state of panic, because they should be.
