this is why we have gun crime in the U.S......the feds and local and state governments do not prosecute gun criminals, and when they do they alllow them to avoid long jail sentences...the kind that would keep them from using guns for a long time and would discourage criminals from using guns in the first place...that is how they do it in Japan.......

Here are guys caught stealing 250,000 dollars in guns from a gun store....and the BATF will not press charges against them.....

Profire Arms and Supplies owner Andrew Hall filed his handwritten complaint in a federal district court, alleging that not only will the ATF not return his stolen inventory, but that it isn’t pressing charges against all the culprits who did…

The goods could've been anything of value. The property being guns and ammo is no different from the goods being jewelry, vehicles, screw drivers, sheep, rare coins, or anything else that would belong to a person or business owner. If the business owner had invoices showing ownership, then the guns and ammo could easily be inventoried against invoices, and returned to the rightful owner. We hear stories all the time where cash and other property is seized by authorities, held for an extremely long and unnecessary length of time before being returned to the rightful owner. And, some property is never returned to the rightful owner.

The article is more about our screwed up judicial system than it is about guns and ammo. The story could've just as easily been about jewelry or rare coins. It's no secret that the different law enforcement agencies seize property every single day from someone somewhere in this country. Some of it is seized legally, and some of it is not. Some property must be held as evidence for any legal action that may be warranted.

In my opinion, after reading the story, the guns and ammo are minor issues compared to the real meat of the matter, which is our screwed up legal system and "all authoritative" law enforcement agencies.

Maybe if we quit locking people up for petty drug offenses, the violent ones would serve their full setences more instead of constantly being paroled to free up space. Mandatory minimums and sentencing doesn't help in this regard either. Great applause line for politicians though.
