Trump Does a MAJOR Flip-Flop on National Abortion Ban and Divides His Base

Should abortion ultimately be handled federally or be left to the states?

Speaking of flip-flops, Trump has betrayed his most loyal base, the Evangelicals, by declaring he will NOT sign any national abortion bill.

Thus thoroughly dividing his base, which is harmful, to say the least, at this crucial time when party unity is much-needed.

Here's a video of a rightwinger and a leftwinger debating this recent turn of events...'

Here's a much shorter and succinct video of a former Republican discussing the same....

To the USMB MAGATs among us, what say you, good thing or bad thing?

Is Trump doing the right thing?

Nothing Trump says can be believed.

This a pathetic and failed attempt by Trump to mitigate reproductive autonomy being a losing issue for Republicans.

If passed, Trump would sign a Federal abortion ban.

LOL Being a liar is working for him? :laughing0301:

With who? With you cultist retards? Yeah, we know. Unfortunately for him, the orange loser needs more than MAGA retards to get elected.

But thanks for playing. :itsok:
Trump has always said the same thing its Kamala that has a flip flop problem.... if the population is mostly pro choice since its now up to the states... the president has no say... and that is a good thing...

And here's IM2 with his favorite sock Boldly Bro. LOL Trump has been very consistent on a 15 week abortion limit and his support of IVF. Another SOCK failure.

They just dont believe in compromise or trying to understand another view point, without demonizing that view as some sort of -"ISM"
Wrong. It's really tired reading the whining from the right because people don't accept their bigoted or draconian opinions.

linton and Obama could have codify Roe v Wade but refused to do so. The dems are as phony as 3 dollar bills on this'

Darragh Roche wrote a fantastic article for Newsweek in 2022 where she quoted many Democrats and liberals who were angry at President Obama for refusing to codify Roe.

Roche wrote, “For a brief period during the 111th Congress, Democrats had a filibuster-proof 60 seat majority in the Senate when independents who caucus with the Democrats are taken into account but the Freedom of Choice Act never became law.”

If liberals are so committed to abortion rights, why didn’t the Democrats pass the Freedom of Choice Act when they had the chance?

BS. But that's what you want to see. Abortion hould be a federl issue. We don't nneed something like that held hostgeto piecemel legislation by states.

Re-read the OP and answer accordingly.

Thanks.

Your second video talks of a BAN.. I was responding accordingly.

Its also BS in the video for the guy to suggest that all Trump supporters (called MAGA by him)) were previously for an abortion ban..(how would he know??). and now suddenly they are spineless giving into voters of the states deciding the issue.

Clearly, abortion with certain limits and restrictions is the widest view nation wide, crossing political lines. That would include conservatives and people who would vote for Trump. Giving the decision to the states is a more democratic way and this is all that MOST people wanted when Roe was overturned.
The fact that there are some more extreme Evangelicals, doesnt define the whole party. The guy in the video
is giving his own opinion, but I sure cant agree with that one. He lumps everyone into one basket.

Been here longer than you... but its not "pro Choice" its I don't really give a rip... God will explain it to us one day...
I care about the issue.

Are you suggesting that God doesn't care about this issue and doesn't want us to care about it either?

Do you believe that an abortion is equivalent to killing a baby/human?

Funny how you guys tell the left that Trump is lying about this and yet you tell the right Trump isn't lying about it.

Trump didn't flip flop an anything (which is what the title of this thread claims). He wanted it left to the states, and the Supreme Court agreed.

Your Planned Parenthood/black genocide program is failing, and you can't deal.
Wait, you believe that abortions are equivalent to genocide?

So you would support a federal ban on abortion if Trump decides to do one? It's a federal issue, right?

If Trump signed some federal abortion ban, you would see Democrats everywhere flip, saying it was a state decision, in their own state. No way would they accept it.

But its neither here nor there. Not going to happen

Flip Flop? When did he say he would sign a national abortion ban?

I actually thought Trump made a tactical mistake by not going all in on protecting human life. I said as much in a thread Trump Made a Rare Tactical Error in Not Supporting AZ Abortion Ban.
Nobody agreed with me. But he really could have made a statement AND saved the AZ abortion bill in the process. It's one of those many things that seems at first glance not to be the right move, but ultimately is. It was also a mistake for the Trump team to say he would veto a national abortion ban in the unlikely event Congress sends him such a bill. Why say that? The GOP should not cede the abortion argument to the left, the nonsense about it being about women. They should not have changed the Party's platform. They should have taken the issue back and embraced pro-life full bore.

Obviously he is still infinitely better than baby-killer Harris, so Evangelicals and Catholics will still support him.

Never, agreed.

Well Marc,
It could be the reference is to the founding of Planned Parenthood as an organization. Abortionn by itself, and act between a doctor and patient is not genocide, but take a look at one of the Founders of this organization.

this was her idea of "planned parenthood"
She was kind of a twisted control freak if you ask me. Some of that mindset still exists in that organization.

"Sanger believed in eugenics — an inherently racist and ableist ideology that labeled certain people unfit to have children. Eugenics is the theory that society can be improved through planned breeding for “desirable traits” like intelligence and industriousness. In the early 20th century, eugenic ideas were popular among highly educated, privileged, and mostly white Americans. Margaret Sanger pronounced her belief in and alignment with the eugenics movement many times in her writings, especially in the scientific journal Birth Control Review.

At times, Sanger tried to argue for eugenics that was not applied based on race or religion. But in a society built on the belief of white supremacy, physical and mental fitness are always judged based on race. Eugenics, therefore, is inherently racist. She held beliefs that, from the very beginning, undermined her movement for reproductive freedom and caused harm to countless people.

Sanger was so intent on her mission to advocate for birth control that she chose to align herself with ideas and organizations that were ableist and white supremacist. In 1926, she spoke to the women’s auxiliary of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) at a rally in New Jersey to promote birth control methods. Sanger endorsed the 1927 Buck v. Bell decision, in which the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states could forcibly sterilize people deemed “unfit” without their consent and sometimes without their knowledge. The acceptance of this decision by Sanger and other thought leaders laid the foundation for tens of thousands of people to be sterilized, often against their will."

It’s hilarious when liberals like MarcATL tries to own the republicans but just ends up demonstrating that they dont even know what he’s talking about.
