The last time the border agent actually apologized and just said due to my name they have to do some checks. I speak 4 languages..one of them being Spanish--should I expect to be questioned..as a matter of course..if I choose to speak Spanish in public? BTW..I live in Idaho..and travel to Montana regularly--and I bet that the real reason they were questioned was that they were speaking Spanish--and had brown skin.

I had a sheriff's deputy pull me over once when I was visiting my mom's house, simply because he didn't recognize my car. Once I ascertained that I hadn't actually done anything wrong to warrant being pulled over, I said, "I assume I'm free to go then", drove off, and called the sheriff's dept to make a (mild) complaint. On the one hand, it WAS inappropriate for him to stop me without my having actually done anything, but on the other hand, my mom was living in an isolated rural community very close to a high-traffic area for illegal border crossings.

What I DIDN'T do was whip out my cell phone, start recording, and rant about "Nazis". Really wasn't more than an annoyance.
