Widespread alarm over how the region could shape geopolitical tensions was raised following the revelation that Steve Bannon, the chief strategist in Trump's White House, said he believed the US would go to war with China within 5 to 10 years during a radio broadcast in 2016.

Mr. Bannon said war would erupt in the South China Sea in "five to 10 years". He said: "They’re taking their sandbars and making basically stationary aircraft carriers and putting missiles on those. They come here to the United States in front of our face—and you understand how important face is—and say it’s an ancient territorial sea."

While the prospect remains relatively remote, experts have told The Independent they believe such a conflict would be catastrophic, throwing the entire globe into turmoil and potentially ending "life as we know it on Earth".

The United States would likely win because sending China's untested forces against the might of America's military would be like pitching farmers against Achilles and his warriors, said one, but even a conventional military victory would be a strategic disaster. It would set off a global economic crisis and create a potential power vacuum inside defeated China "the like of which we can't imagine".

War between China and America 'could end life as we know it on Earth'

The man controlling the puppet strings of the Oval Office wants to go to war with China because of "how important face is." God help us.

We have more important threats to our sovereignty and freedom than either China, or Russia.
One of course, is Islam; the other is more secretive and comes via the Bilderberg Conference, which involves annual secret meetings which include bank executives, investors and politicians and, no independent journalist can report on it. The Bilderberg Conference is only one arm of what could be described and a tentacled octopus, a secret world government. The Interalpen-Hotel Tyrol (in Germany of course), was host to this group in 2015. This group is what has been aiding the Islamic migration and thus get low cost labor into the west.

What is wrong with liberals that they can't deal with the idea that the President is in charge?

Fortunately Obama is gone so America won't have to buy military hardware from China when that war starts.
By the time the war's over, we'll be lucky if anybody's around to buy anything.
By the time that war starts, I'll be long gone.

and, most likely, so will my children
I'd believe you if a guy who wants war with China in 5 to 10 years wasn't the most powerful man in the country right now.

I'd say he only predicted it, based on China making islands.

And also because of how important it is for the U.S. to save face. That's the scary part.

A civilization built on an economic system that demands people buy shit to maintain itself never had a chance anyway.

What's the point of manufacturing anything if no one buys it?

What should it be based on, barter?

Your quote does not support your supposition. Where has anyone stated that war with China is something that they want? Recognizing reality is not only a good thing but does not indicate that you want such a reality to occur. Quite the contrary, it is typically an attempt to find a way of adverting such an outcome.

He was noting a fact and then postulating what may occur if the current trend is allowed to continue. For what it is worth, I think that he is incorrect considering that China's economic prosperity is closely tied with our own. They are likely just positioning themselves as China tends to have a much longer view of the future than America does.

These predictions sound a lot like Al Gore's predictions.

So you are comparing Bannon to Al Gore. Hmm.

It's NOT just to save face. The entire act of BUILDING THOSE islands and militarizing them was a DIRECT reaction to the FuckYou given to China in the form of the TPP. MAIN purpose of TPP was to limit China's influence over our other Asian trading partners. They were EXCLUDED as a slap in the face..

So we (you and Obama kimosabe) FUELED that. And the expected reaction SHOULD HAVE been for China to attempt to control that vital shipping route and CUT OFF most all of SE Asia signatories to that measure.
